A blog about the Callington Mill and Oatlands

Alan's dream come true

Truly beautiful, impressive to go to the top and see it from there too, and to see the sails turning, talk with the miller and others, buy a packet of flour ground in the mill, then go across the street and buy a loaf of sourdough bread from the Graham Pritchard's bakery!  Yum!  My late cousin Alan Scott would have been so excited to see his dream coming to life after so long.  His sister Eleanor and her husband Barry Bjorksten too put so much of themselves into the project that I hope the Southern Midlands Council live up to the dream now that they are running the busine

Descendents of the owner Thomas Jillett

We visited Oatlands and the mill in April,2010, and were unaware of the extent of the restoration project, or of great great grandfather Thomas's role within the town.  We later watched ABC Stateline programme which revealed a depth of information about the project and the intention of using the mill as a tourist experience.

i expect to receive plans for a small ovencrafters oven and commence construction soon. the intention is to use the process to generate interest around organic and slow food production as well as more general issues of the relocalisation of food and other sustainability-related issues. hope to visit the mill and bakery next i am in tasmania. would love eventually to get some flour as well.
